A Little About Me

Sydney Maher is an actor, singer, mover, and educator based in Milford, Connecticut, just a short train ride away from NYC! She is graduating from Western Connecticut State University in May with her BFA in Musical Theatre.

During her time at WCSU, Sydney had the opportunity to train and work with a number of industry professionals, including Justin P. Cowan, Tim Howard, Ann Gershefski, and Broadway and Film veterans Megan Bolan, Chris Bolan, John Hickok, Elizabeth Parkinson, Scott Wise, and Mary Ann Lamb.

Additionally, Sydney is a proud alumna of The Link Program, where she performed and studied in the Film/Television concentration and worked with several film and television professionals including Danny Loftus-George, Conner Wilson (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), Rob Decina, Jeffery Dreisbach, Blaine Johnston, and Kevin Metzger-Timson, among others.

 

Sydney is a people person at heart, and loves performing because of the connections it creates between people, as well as the light it sheds on the human experience.

Educational Credits

At WCSU, Sydney performed in a number of productions. Her educational roles include: Shelley Parker (Bat Boy: The Musical), Charlotte (Charlotte's Web), Frances (Melancholy Play: A Chamber Musical), E.A. (In The Open), and Featured Ensemble (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street).

Professional Credits

Most recently, Sydney had the opportunity to perform at the Goodspeed Opera House in their New Works Festival, where she played Gia Douglass in the first staged reading of Little Miss Perfectwritten by Joriah Kwamé, and directed by Zhailon Levingston. She also performed in the cabaret Letters to the President, where she performed the song "Just About Die" under the musical direction of Patrick Sulken. Sydney has also performed in a number of shows with Pantochino Productions, her most favorites being the world premiere of Beat Bugs: A Musical Adventure, in which she played Buzz, Urinetown, in which she played Hope Cladwell, and Cry-Baby, in which she played Lenora.

Awards

Sydney recieved the BroadwayWorld award for Best Actor in a Musical (High School/College Division) for her performance as Hope Cladwell in Urinetown, and was nominated for an Irene Ryan Award by the Kennedy Center College Theatre Festival for her performance as E.A. in In The Open.

SPECIAL INTERESTS

Not only does Sydney have an immense interest in theatre as well as television and film, but she also has a passion for dramaturgy.

During her time at WCSU Sydney served as dramaturg on a number of productions including Hand to God, The Covid Decameron 2.1, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and Rodgers and Hammerstein's Allegro. She looks forward to the possibility of many dramaturgy opportunities in the future!

In addition, Sydney loves to teach. She worked for three years as a theatre camp counselor at Pantochino Productions in Milford, Connecticut,​ where she had the opportunity to teach 6-7 year-olds the basics of improvisation, assist in acting training, and serve as the assistant director of Mother Goosical, a production composed of 4-5 year-olds.
